Plastic Shelter︎︎︎

Type: K-12
Location: Tulum
Size: 670 SF
Year: 2019

The Plastic Shelter invokes an easily recognizable symbol of global waste trade: the plastic pallet.

As a structural object and as a literal representation of waste trade, the project’s use of the pallet avoids common tendencies to aestheticize plastic waste itself. The pallets are repurposed as structure, screen, and finished surface and are arranged in a repeating bay system, forming two gabled structures capped with false fronts.
